When the fourth Terminator movie was released, it was intended to kick off a whole new line of movies for this series. However, since it was released, multiple issues have arisen. The first problem that happened was the movie’s production company filing for protection against bankruptcy. Because this company is trying to get their financial situation under control, one of the steps they took was to look for a buyer to purchase the rights to the Terminator series. After unsuccessfully shopping around the rights, they decided to auction them off. Near the beginning of 2010, a hedge fund ended up the purchasing the rights for close to $30 million. What’s interesting about this purchase is that this was the hedge fund that was actually responsible for pushing the production company into financial problems in the first place.
In the middle of 2010, news began to surface that development was taking place on a new film in the series. But once this news began to circulate, the hedge fund that owns the rights to Terminator issued a warning that this film would infringe on the rights that they own.
After a period of inactivity, news about the future of the Terminator series once again popped up at the beginning of 2011. What’s really interesting about the latest news is that discussions are in place for Arnold Schwarzenegger to be involved with the fifth movie. Additionally, the filmmaker and writer that are currently being discussed for the latest Terminator movie are the same two men who are responsible for the Fast and Furious series. While only time will tell if this movie is actually going to happen, things currently look good for Terminator fans.
